From daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus to Hannah Montana to boundary-pushing performer, her fans know she defies labels. Miley Cyrus is different, in a great way.
In a 2020 interview, she claimed to have been chased by a UFO. Learn more about her strange experience and its impact.
Cyrus made many controversial moves in the past but by 2020 her public image was more subdued. In an interview with fashion designer Rick Owens for Interview magazine, Cyrus discussed her UFO encounter.
She had already released 6 solo albums and was known for “finding herself” instead of past incidents like cyber-bullying or insensitive comments. In their discussion, Cyrus and Owens talked about her new music, creativity during COVID, life on the road, and aliens after Owens shared a story about staying near Area 51 for his 57th birthday.
Owens replied to Cyrus’ question about alien life by saying, “I don’t know, but assuming there’s only us seems arrogant.” Cyrus retorted, “That’s what I think!” and shared a story about a supposed UFO encounter she experienced while driving in San Bernardino with a friend.
She acknowledged that it could have been due to the weed wax she had bought earlier, but described the UFO as a “flying snowplow” with a glowing yellow plow that she and her friend, as well as other witnesses on the road, saw fly.
Cyrus was taken aback by the sighting, which could have been real or a hallucination from weed wax. She was “shaken” for 5 days and couldn’t look at the sky the same due to fear of their return. But she felt no threat, according to Owens.
“I felt no threat, but I saw a being sitting in the front of the UFO. Eye contact was made and that’s what disturbed me, seeing something I couldn’t comprehend. You’re correct, the idea that we’re the only things in this vast universe is a form of narcissism.”
Many celebrities have publicly shared their belief in extraterrestrial life. For instance, Nick Jonas claims to have seen lights in the sky as a child, making him a “firm believer” (per Seth Meyers, 2015).
Kacey Musgraves also told Us Weekly in 2015 that she’s had “several UFO sightings.” January Jones shared with Jimmy Kimmel in 2020 her belief in having seen a spaceship in Iowa during her 20s.
Other celebrities like Post Malone, Kurt Russell, and Aaron Rodgers have also claimed to have seen aliens or UFOs, according to Buzzfeed. Given California had the most UFO sightings in 2022 (per NBC4 Los Angeles), it’s not surprising that many famous people have had encounters.
